I am reluctantly selling my vintage original Yamaha SG- 500 which I have owned for many years.
This is a genuine guitar with many dings and scratches, not a relic.
It’s a great electric guitar with a good solid feel, plays extremely well with a decent action and there are no buzzes anywhere along the neck. It has a a killer sound. One of these was part of the iconic sound of Big Country
The sound is created using 2 Humbucking pickups, with black surrounds. These are powerful pickups and the guitar easily stands up against any Gibson Les Paul.
Yamaha SG-500s were made in two colours - translucent red and black. They were only made between 1976-79 and were good solid guitars in their own right although they were less well known than their more famous brothers SG-1000 and SG-2000. I suspect, this was an early model.
The difference between the models is mainly cosmetic in a similar fashion to how Gibson differentiate between their models.
This one has a Yamaha SG - 2000 truss rod cover and 3 original machineheads. The other 3 are genuine Yamaha machineheads, but from a different model.
This is how I purchased the guitar.
The case is original and only has one remaining working catch, but it adds value as this was originally supplied with the guitar.
The strings need replacing but I will leave that up to the buyer who may prefer a different gauge
